Have you ever stopped praying about something because you no longer expected it to change?
Perhaps it’s a health issue you’ve learned to manage, a family situation that has remained unresolved, or anxious thoughts that keep returning no matter how often you bring them to the Lord. After a while, it’s easy to lower your expectations and simply learn to live with it.
Yet God’s Word says, “The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell in it forever.” The righteous don’t merely inherit the land. They dwell in it. They enjoy it. They possess what has been given to them.
That’s what Joshua learned firsthand. After all the victories he had seen, the Lord still told him, “There remains very much land to be possessed.” God had already given His people the land, yet there were still portions they had not stepped into and enjoyed.
Perhaps there are areas of our lives that are like that. Maybe you’ve stopped expecting peace in your mind, healing in your body, or a breakthrough in a situation you’ve brought to the Lord for years. At some point, it’s easy to conclude, This is probably as good as it gets.
But our Lord Jesus did not pay such a great price for us to simply settle for less. And He is certainly not asking us to fight for what He has already purchased. He simply wants us to keep looking to Him, keep expecting His goodness, and keep walking by faith until we begin enjoying what is already ours.
So if there is an area where you’ve lowered your expectations, bring it before the Lord once again. Declare, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I refuse to settle for less than what Jesus died to give me. I will possess every blessing that is mine in Christ.”
Don’t give up ground, beloved. Keep trusting. Keep expecting. Keep speaking in line with His finished work. The One who made you righteous delights to see you enjoying every blessing He has freely given you. Joseph Prince
